HOW TO GET THERE
If you are local it's very easy to cycle or walk there - either through the Folly View estate from Park Road, or along the Stanford Road. By car, turn into the Stanford Rd from the top of London St, (signposted Folly Sports Park). Go up and over the hill to the end of the Stanford Road until you can go no further, and park on the road or in the small car park by the skate park. (SatNav directions: SN7 8BF . But be careful! It's a relatively new postcode and some satnavs put you on the other side of Faringdon! ) After you've parked, the Cycle Park is just out of sight, beyond the rugby pitch, so follow the perimeter path past the tennis courts and to the left of the rugby pitch. MAKING THE CYCLE PARK
A team from Farcycles, the local cycling organisation, had the idea, designed, planned, financed (by generous grants and donations) and managed the project. Work on construction of the cycle training park started April 7th 2019 and the park was officially opened July 7th 2019 To see photos of the cycle park please click here |
July 2019
Farcycles delivered this amazing pioneering community facility for current and future generations to enjoy.
Construction took place between April and June with the official opening on 7th July.
150 m³ of earth were excavated
100 m³ of gravel formed the base
150 m track and paths were laid
We worked with the specialist ecologist company to protect local wildlife during construction, and we are making a refuge to encourage reptiles to live there with us!
In November we landscaped the surrounding area by planting 180 native trees, many of which were sponsored by local families - thank you to you all.
